The loss of a pet is never easy. For most of us, our pet is part of our family. They are considered our children, companions and best friends. They not only give us unconditional love they trust in us as we do them. When they leave us, we need to journey through the grief process and sometimes it is hard to find compassion from those who don't understand. Just as any significant loss, you will experience denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. Remember, these are valid feelings, that can be extremely painful. All five stages can be experienced over a period of months. Just when you think you have moved on, some of the five stages can resurface when triggered by old memories.
